Photography Course – Photos in the Style of another Famous Photographer

Our assignment for this week was to pick a famous photographer and take photos that mimic their style. Photography Class – Varying Exposure

I’m taking the DSLR Fundamentals Workshop at Photographic Center Northwest with Patricia Ridenour. The goal of this photo gallery is to explore the effects of varying the exposure time. The first section consists of light painting shots where you set the shutter speed to 20+ seconds in a dark room. Any bright light source will quickly expose that part of the sense creating the painting effect. The second section consists of photographs taking while hiking at Twin Falls State Park. These explore the effect of long exposures on water. In the third section, I’ve attempted to recreate the Edgerton Water Drop

Photography Class – Exploration with Light

I’m taking the DSLR Fundamentals Workshop at Photographic Center Northwest with Patricia Ridenour. Our first assignment was to place an object where it didn’t belong. I chose to place a Jack O’Lantern I’d carved for Hallowe’en in various places in my apartment and explored the best lighting to make it work. The other photos in the gallery are from our second class where we went to Pike Place Market to try different techniques for night time photography.

Blanca Lake

Located about 15 miles North East of Index, WA, Blanca Lake is a beautiful turquoise coloured lake.  The drive from Seattle is longer than usual because the Index Galena Rd is washed out near Blanca Lake.  Instead we drove around via Beckler River Road.  From the trailhead, there is a series of steep switchbacks which quickly bring you out of the valley and reward you with views of nearby Glacier Peak.  From there, you decend past Virgin Lake about 3/4 mile until you get to Blanca Lake.  The best spots to get photos are off to the right where you can get views of Kyes Peak and the Columbia Glacier.
