Located near Leavenworth, the Enchantments area is one of the top 10 hikes in Washington State. This year we set out to visit the areas during the brief period when the larches turn golden before losing their needles. The first challenge of the enchantments hike is always getting a permit which are available as part of a daily lottery at the ranger station. We were lucky to arrive on a day where everyone got a permit(or perhaps it was the extreme cold warnings). After leaving one car at the Lake Colchuck trailhead we hiked straight up from the Snow Lake trailhead past the Snow Lakes and to Lepracaun lake. It was a long day but this gave us the maximum time in the enchantments and plenty of opportunities to explore the area. We spent the next two days carefully seeking photographs at sunset and sunrise and hiking nearby peaks to get the best views of the enchantments.
